A Winter's Moment of Stillness
I have always loved this part of winter, when the arrival of snow is still novel and a full of wonderment, when the semester winds down, when so many sparkly lights go up and candles are lit, when so many of us finally take a moment to pause and breathe.
For me, this winter break also seems to mark the end of several long partnerships and projects as well as the sudden beginning of new ones. I'm starting twenty-twenty-six without a good sense of where and how I'll end it - which of course is a bit exciting and terrifying in equal measure.
My usual December break-in-formatting to share some general thoughts, readings, and recommendations:
Apparently it is the "era of the pickle." I am here for it.
My favorite writing tool Scrivener now incorporates images into their organizational scheme. Purty.

I loved this beautiful defense of teaching close reading, and defense of humanities education writ large.
"Austria's rebel nuns refuse to give up Instagram to stay in their convent." Recommends itself, really.
My favorite brand of BlueSky skeet is Isaac Chotiner jokes, and so this McSweeney's bit on him interviewing Santa Claus is pure gold. May none of us ever get famous enough to attract Chotiner's attention.
Hope you all get a break these next two weeks, and that it involves both rest and joy.
Catch you on the flip side.
Sarah
